SWADE. If you haven’t heard about it, or of course backed the Kickstarter, it is the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition. Unlike at least the last two Savage Worlds updates, this one has considerable mechanical changes, albeit ones that are easy to convert. I’m not going to go into the details as you can find all those details over at Pinnacle’s website. Here’s the basics of what is means for us:
First, the 5-year updates are hitting the reset button. All products will be updated to be SWADE-compatible once they hit 5 years from their most recent release date. Until that time, all products are still usable as is along with the incorporation of the SWADE Conversion Guide from Pinnacle Entertainment.
Second, all major setting guides will be thoroughly perused for other potential updates. Then when they are released in their new editions, they will be SWADE-compatible and potentially incorporate other changes. However, these editions will simply replace the existing setting webstore offerings and thus will not need to be repurchased and all current customers will get the updates.
Finally, there are some other updates to learn about below sparked by this new SWADE release. Please continue reading for those updates.
Every year a step back and try to think of a new improvement to make to Mystical Throne Entertainment. This year that big change will be to the Ultimate Guides. Currently, Ultimate Guides are 90% source material and 10% mechanics. However, when a new version is released, it means a whole new book, new listing, new proofing copies, new layout, etc. It also means that if someone wants to use that book for multiple game systems, they have to purchase multiple copies with 90% of the same content.
To remedy this, all Ultimate Guides will be rebranded as “Tabletop Gaming Guide” and released as a sourcebook only. There will be one book and accompanying that book will be printer-friendly guides titled “Using [book title] With…”. Each guide will include all the mechanics necessary to use that sourcebook with a specific game system or setting. For example, you would purchase the Tabletop Gaming Guide to Pirates and Privateers which would include free guides to Savage Worlds and Entropic Gaming System all in one purchase. The main PDF and POD would only contain the 90% source material and the separate printer-friendly guides would contain the 10% mechanics. It also means that if mechanics are created for another game system or setting, it will be released as another printer-friendly guide and added to the existing listing. No need to purchase the book again, you will simply download the guide for free as it would be attached to the listing.
This actually allows me to easily update the books to SWADE, offer more Legend-compatible books, update to EGS as necessary, and provide guides for incorporating the books into settings such as Shadowed Earth. The existing listings would be updated with these new releases (although only one will remain active) so that existing customers do not need to purchase the book again.
This also means that other books can be brought into this supplement series, such as the upcoming Pinkertons book. You will then get a separate guide for Savage Worlds, EGS, and Shadowed Earth (Judgment Day and The Fallen).
Development continues on The Fallen, a Powered by the Apocalypse book placed in Shadowed Earth where players take on the role of one of the members of The Fallen. The book is roughly 95% written.
