Aaron T. Huss
This month I decided to get a pair of products out into the world of playtest that have been sitting on the back of my mind for years now. Beyond the Firelight is the latest entry into Shadowed Earth, but is backed by a new set of mechanics. These mechanics are GM-less and center on storytelling rather than heroic adventures. Beyond the Firelight was always meant to be a survival or investigative horror game that didn’t really fit the themes of EGS and Savage Worlds. Why? Because they’re too heroic. Thus, these new mechanics were born (although they’ve been in development for almost a year now). Beyond the Firelight was first made a concept about 3 years ago. I just couldn’t find the right way to do it until now.
Little Heroes is the second playtest entry. Little Heroes actually first became a concept 4 years ago and was originally going to be a stripped down version of Savage Worlds designed for family-friendly play with children. However, I couldn’t really get the concepts right to avoid over-complication when gaming with young children (such as my 4 and 6-year old). When I designed the mechanics for Beyond the Firelight, I realized that with a little tweaking, they would be perfect for Little Heroes due to their simplicity and their focus on storytelling (which is the style of gameplay my children enjoy so much). My kids are much less about crunch and way more into the fun of creativity.
Both of these are available for playtest now through August 31.
DriveThruRPG / RPGNow recently announced that their printer, Lightning Source, is removing the availability of standard color, 50# books. Besides Savage Insider #10, Mercenary Breed is the only set of books affected by this. Those print options have been removed and only the premium color, 70# print options remain.
The second round of editing on Five Points (Dark Streets) is done! This means that the book now moves into layout and then artwork will be commissioned. Layout has not actually begun, but mainly because there is one thing I want to add to the content first. That pushes release out to the second half of August or possibly early September.
Ultimate Conspiracies Guide for Savage Worlds has gone through layout. It’s currently in the hands of newcomer artist Ken McIntyre (who also happens to be my cousin). He’s got a flair for the weird and this type of book is perfect for his style!
We have a lot in the pipeline for Ultimate Guides. First off, Ultimate Fey Guide for Savage Worlds is available in PDF and POD. This is a great book that presents a micro-setting that can be used as an add-on to an existing setting, built upon to create a new setting, or added to other Ultimate Guides to create a truly unique setting. From here, we have a number of books in development or pending development: Ultimate Renaissance France Guide, Ultimate Vikings Guide, Ultimate Feudal Japan Guide, Ultimate Undead Guide, Ultimate Villainy Guide, Ultimate Psionics Guide, and possibly Ultimate Anglo-Saxon Guide.
Yep, lots more stuff coming for these Ultimate Guides sourcebooks.
Entropic Gaming System
Entropic Heroes: Fantasy is diligently being worked on. This book will be a toolkit much like the Science Fiction book, so there’s lots of content to add.
Judgment Day: Quick Start Guide for EGS and Savage Worlds is done with artwork in process. There’s no rush on the artwork, so it should be available in the next few weeks. I’ve already gotten one piece back with the next being worked on. These look awesome!
Don’t forget to visit the Shadowed Earth Online content and the Encyclopedia Chaotica:
Development for Ancient World: Quick Start Guide has completed and the new chapters have been sent off for editing. I will probably get them back quite soon and will get this book into layout. I already have the artwork and expect it to be available in early August if not later this month.
The revised Savage Worlds core books are now available. All three are available in PDF, the full-color core setting guide is available in hardcover POD, and Hero’s Handbook and Epic Gamemastering are available in black-and-white, paperback POD. The Quick Start Guide for Savage Worlds will get a revision along with a PWYW POD version. Expect to see that this quarter.
Broken Ruler Games
Broken Ruler Games has been quite busy as of late with the recent release of ScreenPlay Presents: Ironbound and the ScreenPlay core rulebook. There’s more coming down the pipeline, such as High Plains Samurai, in the upcoming months, so stay tuned for new ScreenPlay content! You can follow all updates and announcements at https://brokenrulergames.net/
New additions to the database have been put on hold while I clean up some recently changed links. I have to scrub the entire database again, but this one won’t take nearly as long.
